the author

Sally Helgesen, cited in Forbes as the world’s premier expert on women’s leadership, is a best-selling author, speaker and leadership coach. For 30 years her mission has been to help women recognize, articulate and act on their greatest strengths and help organizations build more inclusive cultures.

The Case

Women in workplaces across the globe have unique development needs when it comes to navigating their way through their careers. Having reached a certain point in their careers on autopilot, operating in the way that has served their career success to date may not serve their career success moving forward. It is important to take some time to reflect on their experience so far, understand themselves on a deeper level and pivot in the behaviours and habits that will orient them towards more future success.

This requirement is not unique to women and yet the numbers speak for themselves. With more women than men graduating from university and less women than men in leadership roles, there is a band in the middle where women need unique support.

At TAG, we notice when coaching current and future female leaders there are often patterns of behavior that keep women stuck in a certain point of their career which causes them a lot of dissatisfaction and frustration and can even diminish their confidence levels because they don’t understand where they are going wrong and what they can do differently. Through the executive coaching journey, TAG  recommends a wide variety of resources and this one has always stood out because it landed so well with the women we were coaching. The book by Sally Helgesen, How Women Rise, which outlines the 12 habits that hold women back from their next raise, promotion or job provides very practical and concrete content that professional women readily resonate with.

TAG could see the impact this knowledge was having on the women they were coaching and set out to team up with Sally Helgesen through the belief that there was so much more impact that raising wider awareness of these 12 habits could create across organizations. TAG and Sally have worked together to  create the How Women Rise Program to women rise at work and in business across the globe.”
